Xenon as an adjuvant to sevoflurane anesthesia in children younger than 4 years of age, undergoing interventional or diagnostic cardiac catheterization: A randomized controlled clinical trial.

BACKGROUND Xenon has repeatedly been demonstrated to have only minimal hemodynamic side effects when compared to other anesthetics. Moreover, in experimental models, xenon was found to be neuroprotective and devoid of developmental neurotoxicity. These properties could render xenon attractive for the anesthesia in neonates and infants with congenital heart disease. However, experience with xeno...

A comparison between the effect of halothane and propofol on liver enzymes after general anesthesia

Background: Halothane is the routine used inhalation anesthetic drug in the world but at present, there is an increasing interest for using intravenous anesthetics like propofol. The purpose of this study was to compare these anesthetic effects on hepatic enzymes. Methods: From 2006 to 2007, this study was performed on fifty eight patients classified in class I of American Society of Anesthetics...

بررسی فعالیت آنزیم‌های کبدی GGT،ALP،ALT،AST در سرم بیماران تحت جراحی سیستم عصبی قبل و پس از بیهوشی عمومی با داروی استنشاقی ایزوفلوران

Background and Aim: Isoflurane is one of the selective and mostly-used respiratory anesthetic materials in the field of neurosurgery. Studies have shown that temporary rise in the level of liver enzymes may occur after anesthesia by halogenic ethers and hence cause liver lesions. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of isoflurane on the activity of ALT-AST-ALP-GGT enzymes...

[Effects of xenon anesthesia on cerebral blood flow in neurosurgical patients without intracranial hypertension].

Among anesthetic agents used in neurosurgery xenon appears to be the most advantageous. It preserves arterial blood pressure, assures rapid recovery and neuroprotection. But the data is lacking on xenon effect upon cerebral blood flow under anesthetic conditions. We measured flow velocity in middle cerebral artery in neurosurgical patients without intracranial hypertension during closed circuit...

Cerebral oxygen saturation is improved by xenon anaesthesia during carotid clamping

INTRODUCTION The cerebral protective effect of xenon anesthesia could be of interest during carotid surgery. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of xenon on cerebral oxygen saturation with those of propofol during carotid clamping. METHODS After approval of Research Ethics Board and patient informed consent, 74 patients scheduled for carotid endarterectomy were enrolled. Pati...
